As most of you know California devides up their night time hunting areas into 12-volt and 9-volt areas, not to mention 'NO HUNTING ' areas. Up until recently I have stayed clear of the 9-volt area, but recently I find myself in need of the lesser voltage light.
What do you guys use or recommend?
SBF, you mentioned Jeph has a nice portable rig. What does he use.
Thanks for any information.

Jeph bought a 6 volt spot light and a 6 volt car/motorcycle. He then wired a cord to the 6 volt light and attched the other end of the cord to the battery posts with a marine style battery connector with wing nuts (If I remember correctly)
The whole thing went in a bag with a should strap so you could carry it to stands away from a vehicle. I will send Jeph and Ryan (who wired the light) an e-mail with the link to this post and see if they can correct me or provide us with any pictures.

I don't have the light, don't you have it Heath?
The system is an optima 6-volt red top battery, a spotlight from raido shack and about a 10ft lead on it. It's still heavy to lug around, but it gets you away from the truck.
For making a red lens get a tail light repair kit from pep boys. They sell one that has a sheet of thick red plastic about 9"x9" that you can cut with a pair of scissors.

Here's something you might want to look into. My half brother hunts raccoons in the South. He mentioned this place to me to look for a lower voltage light.

They have a 6 Volt Spotlight - H4515. You might call them and see if they sell a converter from 12v to 6v. If not Radio Shack would probably have some kind of a converter.
Here's one I found but it's a rechargeable so it isn't my first choice.

Here's another of the coon hunting lights like above.
