This would be an amazing opportunity for hunters here in Missouri but no doubt the farmers would NOT like to see these large animals in the middle of their crops. I will watch this to see how it develops. :speed-banana:

CAPE GIRARDEAU Mo – The Missouri Conservation Commission has directed Missouri Conservation Department (MDC) staff to reinitiate plan development that would enable the agency to restore elk around Peck Ranch Conservation Area (CA) while addressing concerns raised nearly a decade ago.

I just don't see how the residents and the farmers will let this fly. I think it would be pretty cool to have elk and have a season for them. I just think the farmers would raise hell and I can't say that I blame them. We are strictly cattle and hay, but if we had row crops I wouldn't be enthused about elk running around my fields. The St. Joe NewsPress had an article about it on Saturday.

I agree with you with the farmers not supporting the idea. As much as I like the idea of being able to hunt elk here in Missouri I fear it just isn't going to work. If Missouri had public land like some of the States out west it might work, but with so little public land here there just isn't enough land to support them and keep them out of crops and hay. You know that as soon as it gets cold the elk would run the cattle off from the hay the cattle farmers were putting out.

Hopefully the MDC has taken this into account and has a plan for handling the elk on private property and can convince folks to support the initiative.

Here is a map that shows the area where the proposed elk re-introduction would occur.
