Ultimate Predator - Rulers of the Night DVD video review

I have thoroughly enjoyed this video and feel it is by far my favorite new predator hunting video released in the last year. It's another night hunting video, which I love doing, and is very action packed. There is a wide variety of animals called in this video. You'll expect to see coyote, bobcat, red fox, gray fox, raccoon and even a ringtail cat. I still love those bobcats and this video has a lot of bobcat action. The camera doesn't start rolling during this video until an animal has been spotted. This is definitely a must have video for anyone who enjoys night hunting or would like to see how it is done.

As I mentioned, it is a night hunting video. It was filmed in Texas where it is legal to hunt predators from a truck. They do hunt from an elevated box built in the bed of their truck. They use hand calls, electronic callers and spot lights to call and take predators. There appears to be a mix of both white light and the use of a red lens on the spotlight they're using.

I've discussed the use of different sounds to stop a predator that's on the move for a shot on different forums and have often wondered about cat sounds. This is the first video that I have seen which I've heard a cat meow being used by the caller to stop the animal for the shot. In a few of the clips it worked amazingly well and in others the animal either didn't hear it or just ignored the sound completely. Another good idea to add to your bag of predator hunting tricks.

The use rifles and shotguns during the course of this video. I really enjoyed seeing so many animals called close enough to the truck that they're able to use the shotgun frequently. The gore factor for this video is very low and is suitable for just about any audience who isn't opposed to hunting videos.

You won't see a break from the hunting for these gents to talk about sponsors or to introduce the next video segment you're about to see. All comments are made during the hunt by voice over. The do give good tips for those who're just getting into night hunting or just getting started. Nearly half way through the video you get to see some footage of a black phase coyote. I believe the animal was taken by a trapper but it was still pretty neat to see such a rare animal.

The DVD is also available on their site or through All Predator Calls.

TBR Outdoors - Predators Round 2 video review

I have had this video for awhile now but have just recently sat down to watch it. It is a 2 disc set and offers over 130 minutes of video and 25 coyote kills. It also has some bonus footage with some day time raccoon hunts that looked like a lot of fun. The entire first DVD is full of only coyote kills. A few raccoons shot and one bobcat are harvested on the second DVD.

The video begins with a stand where 4 coyotes are called in and 4 are taken. It's some pretty exciting action and is a perfect example of why you should keep calling after you shoot. Several times during this video you will see additional coyotes that are called in after a coyote has been shot.

There are a couple of bad shots on the video that result in wounded animals which are later put down. This is a non-issue for me, but I know others don't like to see it or have their children watch. It's a part of hunting if you get out there enough and is present in this video. There also isn't as much blood shown in this video as in Part 1 of the video series.

TBR Outdoors has picked up a few new sponsors and have changed up the gear they use in this video. If you saw the first video you will recall they used primarily ARs in their hunts. This video they primarily use CZ 527s with a few hunts filmed with an AR. You will also see a lot of the Mojo Critter in this video with a few clips with the Flambeau Lone Howler. (Click links to see images)

Like the first video they cut from the hunting action to three of them sitting on a dock on a pond to talk about a hunt you had just seen and to tell you about the next one you will see. There is a noticeable wind noise on the microphone while they share hunt details. They're getting better with the quality, but this is one area I'd like to see improvement. The end of the second video they've got a few bloopers and comedy skits followed by a demonstration and explanation of the gear they've used in the course of this video. They also mention a raccoon and turkey hunting video they will be releasing in the near future.

The video is $16.95 when bought directly from TBR Outdoors. I enjoyed the video and would recommend it to others. I look forward to seeing these guys from the Show Me State wack a few more coyotes in future videos.

Here is a breakdown of the weapons, callers and decoys they used during the making of this video.

Coyote hunting video on Blu-Ray!

I saw this recently and thought it was pretty cool. There aren't many hunting videos on Blu-Ray. I like the idea of being able to see predator hunting videos in high definition. I've not seen the video or read any reviews, so I am not sure how ready I am to drop $30 plus the shipping to see if I like it. Has anyone seen it yet?
