Gettin a FoxPro Spitfire

Plan on ordering my first electronic call this weekend and need to fill it up with 24 calls...I'm in south Texas and plan on mainly going after coyotes, bobcats, pigs and badgers. I've been reading a lot on here and know I need all rabbit (cotton tail and jack) calls for sure and plan on getting the 2 bobcat calls offered, wood pecker as well as the piglet calls...any other suggestions? Especially for badgers, never killed one and they're on my new lease

Hey Guys, Anybody use a homemade e-caller? I made one and called in a pair of coyotes on my first time out with it and my buddy shot one! It was a Blast!

Quick review of Western Rivers Nite Stalker

I posted this a couple weeks back on another hunting forum, and thought I'd paste it here for you guys too. I recently bought a Western Rivers Nite Stalker.

Here is a quick summary of its features -

Both Remote and Caller feel nice and solidly built. The Remote can turn on/off the caller seperately and also turn on/off the dual speaker. Illuminated buttons and backlight LCD screens on both units. Remote has lanyard attachment. The remote and ecall both have the same button lay-out, which is easy to use and well thought out. The screen on both remote and caller feels flimsy though, I'd say the only weak link so far. The battery port is accessed via locking screw ( nice feature).

The Sound libary is interesting. Western Rivers is decieving people somewhat when they say it has 400 sounds. Yeah, I guess it does have 400 sounds, but over half of them are repeated vocalizations. Example -

1. Bobcat purr
2. Bobcat purr Mark IV
3. Bobcat distress
4. Bobcat Distress Mark IV

Make Sense? So you'll have to clean out files that aren't updated and remastered Mark IV soundfiles from the unit using the computer. Some sounds really suck, others are great. The cool thing is I can format it however I wish. I have created various folders for all my sounds. I plan on adding from other sources, which is cool. Very easy to use and format, etc. You'll just have to be patient and go through the calls to determine which actually will work. I deleted all non-Mark IV files, and even listend to the Mark IV files to delete repeated files.

Other nice feature is that the volume is adjustable, the increase in volume is graduale.

Nice LCD read-out on both remote and caller, only complaint again is that the clear screen feels like it could be "
popped" in w/ minimal pressure. They provide all USB cables, etc. Easy to format call list.

Con is that the sound libary might be lacking in some areas and too strong in others. Tons of goose, turkey and ungulate calls (illegal to use in my state). But very little bobcat, crow/raven, fox, wild pig, and rodent sounds (legal to use in my state).

I left the caller on idle for roughly 8hrs, and it was on idle for about 12-14hrs total before I changed batteries. I like the power indicator on both remote and caller. Caller Automatically shut itself down when batteries got too weak.

Mixed blessing is the sound library. I deleted about 300 soundfiles for various reasons. I then renamed all soundfiles to my liking, grouping everything together by a catogory. I like how the Ecaller and remote automatically update eachother and put all files into alphabetical and/or numerical order. This thing is ssssooooo easy to use, and if you're a neat freak like I am, you'll enjoy being able to reformat every little detail to your liking. The only pain is how long it could take. I spent a good couple hours. But it was fun.

I also uploaded soundfiles from Varmint Al's website, including 45 minutes of coyote and prey sequence. I want to add a lot more of those, and this ecall will have no issue with that as the memory storage is huge. I'm even considering adding some music or something, maybe a good audio book, LOL.
