I got the Highlighted map from Rick Coelho from DFG in Big Bear today. Needless to say that having the map makes reading the description in the book a whole lot easier. And it's a pretty good thing that I never got caught lighting in places that are obviously not legal now that things are a bit clearer...

If anyone needs a copy, I can try and scan it or photocopy it and drop it in the mail. I'm willing to spend the 39cent to keep someone else from a much pricier fine..

I'll try to get the wife to show me how to use this new fangled printer/scanner thingy attached to my computer, and send it to you in a PM or in the forum as an attachment. And you can hook it up from there..

Just a little hint, I had to take a look at some topo maps on Terraserver to find out where the R3W, R4W and all that junk was. It actually helped to look on the real maps and get a good visual of where and where not you could be.

Working on that, I just stopped in to the Kelso Train station yesterday, while driving through the Mojave on my way to Vegas and suddenly feel the urge visit Hole in the Wall and Midhills. The station also had just about every So.Cal BLM map that you would need. That place is really nice since they re-modeled it.

You need to add the San Bernardino County "no shooting" zones, no night shooting zones, and shotgun only zones... and remember to unload the rifle

Unfortunately I am not that computer talented and had enough of a hard time trying to decipher the highlight map with the written directions to begin with. I'm pretty sure my head would explode trying to outline all those other areas..

Tim, the rules are there for safety.
The no rifle zones are because of homes, ranches, and/or camping/OHV riding areas.
I know you know this....... not jumping on you, but you have to be careful out there...
as far as wardens go, the lady in Big Bear never worked at night......don't know what their boundaries are.
who would want to work alone at night, with no chance at success ?
easier to write fishing tickets at the lakes...
so your chances are very,very, slim to none that an encounter would occur....
it's a big desert out there... I hardly ever see another soul when I go out, too hot now

Yeah, I get the safety issue, and have no problem with that. What gets me is that some of the NO Rifle zones are completely ridiculous. What sense that makes I don't know, because anywhere that you would want to hunt is well outside of the legal limit for houses and established rd's, etc...Same goes for down in Yucca Valley, there are a couple of washes just loaded with Yotes, and of course it is designated a Shotgun only area, although in most places you are again well outside of those limits for housing and roads.. I'm just not sure what they were thinking when they established the No Rifle areas.

The lighting boundries we have today are a result of some very hard work by CVCA a very long time ago. There was a time when night hunting for predators was not allowed here in CA. I think Danny could shed more light on this subject.

Goofy Hunter, it was legal to light almost anywhere in California back in the 50s 60s and up to about the mid 70s. Some people wanted to close the whole state to night hunting. The DFG director at the time was Ray Arnett, a friend of the CVCA. He gave us the 12 volt areas we have to this day to night hunt in.
As I've stated before, the CVCA had political pull. Thats something all the clubs should think about, because they have none now.

The maps you guys are looking at are for lighting with 12 volts and from your truck. As I recall you can light the rest of the state with hand held 9 volt lights on foot, except for two countys.
Remember, I have not seen the California regs in a couple two or three years, so I don't know whats going on with lighting or shotgun and rifle areas.......Good hunting

I understand, but still think the boundaries are a little hard to find for some places. Call me crazy, but I think they should have boundaries that are easy to recognize such as streams and highways. Some of them are that way currently, but some (Like over at Camp Rock Rd) are not.

Yes I do go every once in a while.. It's just too damn hot. Especially now. Not sure about the rest of ya'll but up here we have already hit the 100's. It's going to be a nasty summer. But yes I do go now and again at night.

Geezzz, it's not illegal to light that area, 9 volts or less is legal, 12 volt lights are not legal. The people that write the laws need to be hunters, not college educated big city nobodys with a piece of paper that says they know it all. Your world is coming to an end kids. It's taken a big dump.

Yeah a recognizable boundry, not a peice of paper they just downloaded off some geographical site, that they pull out of their azz to rub your nose in. Then, have them try to show you on a "Normal California Map" the location of the boundry that they got off the geographical site, it couldn't be done...it's like watching a bunch of retards eating ice cream cones!!!
