Now that I am here in Missouri after our move from California I am trying to decide how to set up my reloading bench. I've got lots of space to build a bench where I want to set up two presses for metallic cartridges and 2 shotgun presses. I've considered building one long bench, something shaped liked an "L" in a corner and even two benches of equal length parallel to one another.

The first two would likely be the best choice as I would be securing it to an exterior wall to help make it more secure. Any suggestions or words of wisdom would be appreciated.

Built my out of 4x4 post. Way over built but it is very strong. I also built a work bench where I use to do my reloading. This was also built out of 4x4s and tied into the wall studs. Had a metal top fabricated for it. I am not much of a carpenter just started to build one step at a time. Just make sure that you don't build the top to high. If your like me I am sitting down when I reload. So get your height set. This is the reloading bench I built for my shop. I put a Formica top on it. See photo.Attached File  photo.jpg (130.43K)

I like the idea of using 4x4's. And it appears the previous owners of this house left a few of them in a pile of lumber. I'm thinking some 3/4 inch plywood for the top. After I get a chair I'll figure out how high to build it off the ground. Any recommendations on how wide?

I have not. I've been doing stuff in the house where it is warm and staying out of the shed for now.

I don't think in the end you will be fully happy with one layer of plywood. I have 2x8's topped with tempered hardboard on 4x4's. Only 36 wide, and should be much wider. however I reload in my office/gun room and space is quite limited. the top is indistructable. Shows almost no damage after 30 years of use. The height is 36" and I use a barstool height swivel chair or stand.

Thanks, Ray. Do you think doubled up plywood would be enough?

I went down to the local lumber yard and got a damaged piece of kitchen countertop and cut off damaged end was only 25 bucks for a 12 ft piece i only needed 10 ft once in a while they damage a custom order and sell them cheap .I like having the backsplash.

Heath, I'm in the same boat as you. I ordered the hardware from Cabela's and purchased the 2x4s from Home Depot. I also purchased plywood from them too. I kind of got the table together enough to start putting things together. This is where I could use some assistance. I'm waiting for Mike Cantor, Jesse Martinez or some other member to volunteer to help. HELP! I should have Scott Edwards help me but he lives in Wyoming or Montana or 29 Palms.

All of my presses are mounted now and I've got a several shelves built against the wall you see in the back ground. The shelves aren't in this picture.
